Is there an admission charge? |
No. We don't even require that you pick
(and therefore pay) for anything - although
we'd certainly appreciate it if you do!
Sometimes we think families use our farm
as their private park. And that's fine
with us. |
| What forms of payment do you accept? |
Cash and check. No plastic. |
| Are tour groups and buses welcome? |
Absolutely! In fact, if you give us a heads-up via email or telephone, we'll try to ensure the availability of a knowledgeable guide. |
|
Should we bring our own containers? |
No. We supply everything you need to
hold the crops you pick. |
|
Are your crops organic? |
We follow organic practices; however,
we are not certified as an organic farm. |
|
Are there chemical pesticides on your
crops? |
No. Which is why we can encourage people
to sample our crops right off the bush.
You don't even need to wash them when
you get home. |
| How do you control Japanese
Beetles? |
As best we can, considering we use no
chemical pesticides. We've experimented with the following natural insecticides:
- Milky
Spore, a naturally occurring bacterium
that specifically targets Japanese Beetle
grubs
- Pyola, which combines pyrethrin, a long-popular, natural insecticide derived from chrysanthemum flowers, with canola oil extracted from rapeseed
- Neem oil, a natural vegetable oil extracted from the Neem tree, an evergreen native to southeast Asia
The Neem oil appears to work the best - the beetles aren't gone, but they seem to be on the run. See:

Do you have pre-picked crops ready for
sale? |
No. We grow 'em. You pick 'em. |
| Do you have any facilities? |
Yes:
- Potty house
- Drinking water
- Running water
- Trash containers
|
|
Do you have any non-picking activities? |
Yes:
- Picnic tables - Feel free to bring
your own goodies
- A huge sandbox filled with toys
- Swing sets
- Our version of a petting zoo - Two llamas, several
dogs, and many, many cats who wander
throughout the farm craving attention,
as well as horses, goats, and geese
- A pass-along library
|
| Do you have a lost and found? |
Yes - in the corner of the picking shed by the pass-along library. If the object is of obvious monetary or sentimental value, we keep it in our office and do our best to identify and reach the owner. If you think you've lost something at our farm, please contact us. |
|
Must we supervise our children? |
If they require supervision: Yes. We
don't have the staff to supervise them
for you.
One of my colleagues suggested a different answer: Unsupervised children will be put to work. We ultimately decided too many parents might take us up on that! ;-) |
|
Can we bring our dog? |
If it gets along with cats and other dogs: Yes. |
